Sun 13 Dec Pool Party

Excellent day was had at our Pool Party.  19 dookers took the plunge and had a great time.  Toys gallore and although the water was a little bit chilly (or so the older ones said...) everyone thoroughly enjoyed themselves.  After an hours swim; a buffet, music and face painting was awaiting to finish off their fun day.  Thanks to Wendy for helping out with the painting - you did a splendid job :-) and thanks to Gail for the great buffet as always.  Photos.

Sun 06 Dec Club RideThank you to Kirsty and Charlly for taking this ride and thank you to Gail for stepping in when Sligo and Hi Fi decided that going backwards and digging their heels in was better than going forwards! 16 riders headed out for a nice walk/trot ride down to Jedfoot and up the Roman Roads and back to Jedburgh via the Crailing Hall road. A good day but with some very heavy showers especially heading back to Jedburgh!  Sorry Laura for running over your sweets... :-)

Club Gymkhana

The gymkhana went ahead on Saturday morning in howling gales with the lovely new "easy carry" show jumps proving impossible to stand up with the gusts of wind so strong they were even blowing people along........however everyone did fantastically well and all had a thoroughly enjoyable day. Thank you to all the judges who did a great job and all the riders (and families) who braved the elements.... Particular thanks to Karen and Doreen who thought they were in the showjumping ring for the rest of their life but never appeared miserable and gave everyone great encouragement - thank you! . One of the best things were the amount of people who turned up on Friday afternoon/evening to set the gymkhana up. It was absolutely brilliant to have so many people there and made it seem easy - thank you VERY much.

SEP 09
Sun 06 Sep Club Ride18 riders left in pouring rain wondering why we bother?!!! Anyway, everyone soon forgot the wet conditions and headed off. We went along the Sandy Track and up past Ulston and down towards the Baitens where we turned into an endless sea of stubble fields. Very wet underfoot but all enjoyed lots of canters and some completely flat out gallops (not mentioning any names....). All returned back very wet and muddy but happy. Except poor Rhonda who led Lucky all the way home as she had lost a shoe. Thanks to everyone who did brave the elements, it makes it worthwhile to see happy faces.

Sun 22 Aug
Beach Ride
It  was a super day, really sunny for a change! Everyone enjoyed themselves, Ellie Meldrum's pony Maggie especially liked the sand which she rolled in twice (with Ellie attached and having to perform an unscheduled dismount!). The only faller was Katy McFadyen who plopped off during a canter along the beach - think her pony Wendy thought it was Red Rum!

Club Ride
Thank you to Judith for taking this ride for us.  Around 16 riders (all wearing hi viz vests - well done) headed through the River Jed and made towards Lanton Woods via the Twitches Baulk.  This is the first time I have seen this track dry!  Nice canter all the way along (well the back ones did - not sure about them at the front!)  Had another canter through the woods then headed down via Sharplaw Road through the Jed once more and home.

Festival of the Horse
Around 60 riders of all ages from Berwick to Devon took part on this years Festival of The Horse ride.  Thank you to John Mabon for kindly leading the ride to Fulton Tower where Billy Gillies once more gave us a very informative and intersting talk. The short ride left The Glebe with the main group then split off at the top of the Castlegate and headed along the side of the golf course towards Lanton Woods. As always Gail made some fantastic refreshments and the muffins were to die for!  All riders and their mounts arrived safely back to Jed around 9 pm and headed off home... some horses wishing to stay a bit longer than their owners would have liked!  A colouring competition for the wee ones was handed out at the end of the ride and the results and pictures will be updated soon.  Photos are available to view right here!  Check out Finns Blog too!

Holistic Evening
A good turnout of members and friends attended a holistic evening at Harden Mains near Oxnam. A huge thank you must go to Karen and Thomas Wardrop for providing the venue, a horse and fantastic food and to Leigh Smyth (Essentials for Equilibrium) for giving us a most enjoyable and interesting night.  Here is Karen's report of what was involved:

"Leigh provided me with a thorough questionnaire beforehand so that she could prepare suitable oils and get some background on my horse, Troy. We were targeting my horse's mud fever so she explained that the oils would treat him holistically but specifically would aid his immune system to enable his skin to heal and hopefully prevent further outbreaks.

Essential oils for this type of treatment are self-selected by the horse! This meant offering Troy a bottle at a time and the ones he was keen on were the ones she would use in the treatment. It was amazing to see him enthusiastically trying to almost eat some of the bottles of oil offered to him. The ones he wanted, he was offered in a drop of carrier oil - sunflower and took them from the palm of the hand. He lapped them up using the underside of his tongue, which is more vascular so gets absorbed more quickly.

Leigh left me with several oils to give him, aswell as aloe vera gel which I am to mix some oils to and apply topically to his mud fever.

2 weeks later, Troy is still keen on two of the oils, but seems disinterested in the others, thereby indicating he has had enough of their benefits for the moment. His mud fever does seem to be improving."

A very interesting evening which gave us all something to think about!
