Thirlestane
Pony & Pooch Challenge |
Jedburgh & District
Riding Club entered two young teams into the inaugural Pony &
Pooch Challenge at Thirlestane International Horse Trials on 16th &
17th August. The challenge consisted of a combination of games,
handy pony & a couple of jumps and included bursting balloons,
fishing for ducks and jumping a dog bone. Team members including the
dogs also had to get through a tunnel to complete the course! The
team on Saturday were Emma Stenhouse with Bobby, Lucy King with
Hercules, Ellie Temple with Wullie and Katy McFadyen with Harry.
Despite being the youngest of the 6 teams by far and having the
disadvantage of being first to go - the team romped home to an
easy victory by more than 30 seconds!! They received lovely
Thirlestane rosettes and fleeces sponsored by Prestige Countrywear.
On the Sunday the team was Katy McFadyen and Wendy, Alex Turnbull
and Angel, Aimee Watson and Kelsae and Ellie Meldrum with Poppy.
This team again put up a good show and ended up in 5th position -
again they were the youngest team taking part. Well done to all the
competitors - it was great to see them all doing so well and so
beautifully turned out! Photos on

Ancrum Ride |
Thank you very much to Carol Paxton for
organising and taking this ride. Unfortunately the weather was
shocking but that didn’t dampen the spirits of those on the ride.
The ride was approximately 3 hours with a refreshment stop at
Rawflat. Thank you to all the land owners for allowing us to ride
over their land and also to park at the top of the Broom. |

BHS Festival of The Horse |
This ride was a great success and
we had to limit the amount of riders. The main ride followed
the Jed Festival Queen’s Ride route to Fulton Castle whilst the
short ride headed up Lanton Hill and via the golf course and
back to Jed (not so much of a short one but a slower walk and
trot one). Excellent refreshments were supplied at Fulton -
thanks to everyone who helped make this event a success yet
again! |

Annual Show |
Thank you very much to the
Henderson family for kindly allowing us to use their field for
our Annual Show. Also thank you to all the judges, helpers,
caterers, first aiders… and to Millers of Jedburgh for supplying
bags of carrots for the working hunter winners and to Borthwick
Burn for donating a bag of feed for our overall Working Hunter
winner and also for donating British Equestrian Trade
Association vouchers. These were presented to the top 3 Club
members with the most points accumulated at the Show. |

Schooling Sessions |
Many thanks to Ann Cranston for
taking our schooling sessions at Ruecastle. These sessions are
becoming more popular each year and it’s good to see new members
(people and horses!) Also thank you to Annie Finch for kindly
allowing us to use her school. Photos are shown on our website
(some more still to go up) and I cannot be held responsible for
the quality… yes it was my camera but it was passed from group
to group so we could get some pics of each lesson! |

Bowmont Forest Ride |
What a great day and a great
turnout! 25 members and 2 guests turned up for an exciting ride
round some new countryside. Gillian McFadyen led 7 small people
round a walking route which covered stubble fields, forest,
water, ditches, natural obstacles and gates!
Eric Paxton and Vicki Wauchope kindly led the longer and faster
ride – which included a mile and a half gallop round a stubble
field. The riders also found some natural and some man made
jumps on their route – which all completed successfully.
A grand day was rounded off by a super, healthy lunch provided
by Gail Murdoch and the Community Food Grant which we recently
received (thanks to Gillian for sourcing and obtaining this). A
special thank you must go to the Murray family who kindly let us
take over their whole steading for the morning!! |

Club Ride |
Thank you to Sarah Harrison and
her helpers, Jackie Price and Jackie Brown, for taking this
ride. 19 riders followed the tracks and roads down to Jedfoot
and up the Roman roads and back via the Crailing Hall road.
Great to see all those hi-viz vests – 98% of people were wearing
them – well done. Welcome to our new members too – always great
to see new faces. |

Annual General Meeting |
We would like to thank all our
committee members and riding club members, new and old, for
supporting our events throughout the year. We have had many
events riding and social and been well supported throughout.
Once again we also need to thank all the landowners, sponsors
and everyone who lent a helping hand. Thank you to everyone who
donated prizes and special thanks to Borthwick Burns who donated
pens, diaries and a lovely necklace! Many thanks to Karen
Redpath who devised an excellent quiz that had all our brains
whirring and to Gail Murdoch
for the lovely buffet! The
turnout was disappointing and we hope to see more of you there
next year. This is where you can voice your opinions and offer
ideas and support for future events. |
